Can I link directly over the domain to a certain directory or file, e.g. http://www.my-name.net.tc/picture.gif, although "picture.gif" is located at my provider?

What sort of sites may I link to with my domain?
Anything! You may link to any site with your domain, so long as it does not violate any international or federal laws and does not break our Terms of Service. "Spamming" -- illegal publicising of your homepage -- is illegal, however, and such actions will lead to the immediate deletion of your domain.

Sign-up step for step:
Register for a domain name for free. If you have no homepage yet, create it (them) and transfer the files to your webspace. If you do not have any webspace, ask your internet service provider if they provide any. Most of them do provide advertisement-free space for their customers. However, there are also plenty of free space providers on the internet, such as fortunecity.com. Enter your domains' administration area with your domain name and password, and within the "Target URL" field, enter the actual address with which your page can be accessed. (for instance: http://www.your-provider.com/user/your-user-name/yourfile.html) Finished! Now each visitor to your site will be pointed to your actual long-url through your domain name. If a visitor visits your domain from "My Home Page" on your homepage, he does not see the actual target URL in the browser address bar; instead, only your domain name from "My Home Page" is displayed!
